Rust Preventives are of the following general types:-

1) Solvent-free oil based rust preventives

2) Solvent containing rust preventives

3) Water-based rust preventives and inhibitors.

Solvent free oil based rust inhibitors are based on non-VOC non-volatile oils with the addition of corrosion inhibitors. www.nimac.co.uk are suppliers of suitable additives for these inhibitors and products can be formulated to give from short term up to long-term indoor preventives. Solvent containing rust preventives are formulated using solvents with a range of volatilities from fast to slow drying and from flammable labelled to non-flammable labelled. Film types can be from dry to touch slight films, oily films, greasy films and hard waxy films. Water-based corrosion inhibitors are formulated using synthetic additives and products can be formulated to give performance from temporary protection to long-term out-door performance. The benefit of water-based inhibitors is the lack of VOC's, the fast drying, natural de-watering, and excellent performance.
