Many production engineers prefer the paler cutting oils, provided tool life and cutting performance are not sacrificed in any way. Ilocut 482 is a general duty cutting oil giving the best of both worlds. By including chlorinated and fatty matter (instead of the normal, dark, sulphurised additive present in many heavy duty cutting oils), the cutting tools are adequately protected against premature dulling and a smooth chip take-off is assured. There is the further advantage that as a chlorine additive is responsible for extreme pressure properties in this blend, machine tool operators have the benefit of full adaptability in Castrol Ilocut 482 for cutting either ferrous or non-ferrous materials. This choice does not exist with most sulphurised cutting oils because of the risk of sulphur tarnish on the finished components, if these are produced from any of the copper-bearing alloys. Another interesting feature is that Castrol Ilocut 482 may be used on a dual purpose basis as machine tool lubricant and cutting fluid provided speed, load and design conditions are appropriate. In this respect, it is suggested that users consult our technical staff beforehand. Apart from its application to automatic and multi-tool lathes handling the higher tensile steels, Castrol Ilocut 482 is suitable for application to such specialised operations as production thread grinding, form grinding and milling set-ups which use multiple cutters.
