APPLICATION Working conditions in deep hole boring and trepanning require special features in the cutting fluid to enable metal removal to proceed within the best environment. In fact, the cutting fluid must be considered a component part of the machining operation here, for its success or otherwise is largely influenced by correct fluid selection. The need for high performance is indicated by operating conditions in which the boring head may be buried in the workpiece for very long periods and be required to give continuous, accurate cutting with no opportunity to check results while the cutting action is in progress. Consequently, any dimensional errors and poor finish are more serious, and more costly to put right. Castrol Ilocut 334 provides extra cutting assistance, for it is a highly fatted oil, with its extreme pressure (EP) properties provided by active sulphur in solution. Because the cutting fluid has to be fed through the boring bar itself, Castrol Ilocut 334 is manufactured with a low viscosity, which gives rapid flushing action to clear swarf from the boring head. Oil delivery pressures need boosting for this type of production work, and it is emphasised that Castrol Ilocut 334 gives reliable service on the specialist machine tools used without any risk of foaming. * Boring operations in general deep hole drilling, boring and trepanning where pressurised coolant systems are used to clear swarf quickly. * Not recommended for cuprous metals.
